Old jobs might be over and done with, thanks to the rise of the machine. But there will always be new roles in a tightly connected, hugely automated technology era.
1. The Data Managers:
The world needs a few million more managers who can make sense of big data.
Consulting firm McKinsey estimates that India will need 2 lakh data scientists in the next few years. Globally the demand-supply gap is even wider. A McKinsey Global Institute study projects that the U.S. will face a shortage of about 190,000 data scientists by 2018 and further, a shortfall of 1.5 million managers and analysts who can understand and make decisions using Big Data. Most companies are now trying to make sense of the massive data flow coming in from multiple sources in order to gain better business insights. But managing the sheer volume, variety, and velocity of data being generated every second requires no less than data wizards with a flair for statistical analysis, quantitative reasoning, predictive modelling, programming, and so on.
2. Cybersecurity experts :
Prevention of data theft is just one of their jobs. According to a study by analytics firm Burning Glass Technologies, demand for cybersecurity professionals is growing 12 times faster than the overall job market and more than three times faster than IT jobs in the U.S. And guess what? One in every four millennials is keen to pursue a career in cybersecurity. India will need at least 1 million cybersecurity professionals by 2020, says IT industry body Nasscom. This will include cybersecurity expertise in smart city projects, as well as Digital India, which plans to transform India into a digitally empowered society and a knowledge economy.
3. Cloud architect:
First of all, a cloud architect understands the defining features of cloud, namely the delivery of IT as a service.
And since both public and private clouds have their own unique characteristics, and many companies are now opting for so-called "hybrid clouds" or hosted private clouds, they have to be experts in how to find the right balance between the two. For instance, a company may hire a vendor to deploy a private cloud that has the ability to "burst" to a public cloud if user demand exceeds a certain level. Determining exactly when and how and this should happen is an art in itself.
4. Digital Marketing Manager:
This role may have all or most of the following responsibilities :
